DLF/OCLC Registry of Digital Masters
In 2005, DLF and OCLC developed a registry of digital masters to coordinate and organize digitization efforts across institutions, and to prevent unnecessary duplication. Today, the DLF/OCLC Registry of Digital Masters contains 4.5 million records. The HathiTrust Digital Library, Biodiversity Heritage Library, and Cornell University are among the participating institutions.
Registry records provide detailed information on whether an item has been digitized, the quality and scope of digitization, what institution is responsible for the initial digitization or preservation of the digital content, and what specific materials are available for use. By recording materials in the Registry, institutions signal their intent to preserve and maintain accessibility of the described materials over time.
