*Note: This position has been filled. Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellowship in the area of social sciences data management.

Reporting to Dr. Byron G Spencer, Professor of Economics and Director of the Statistics Canada Research Data Centre at McMaster, and working closely with University Library staff in the Sherman Centre, the Fellow will conduct his or her own data-based research and will make recommendations relating to social sciences data management plans for the library.

The Fellow will pursue work on topics that fit well with ongoing research in the Department of Economics; such topics will include the analysis of data holdings in the Research Data Centre. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to teach two courses each year in the Department of Economics, including one or more that focus on data and data analysis.

In relation to the library's social science data management activities, the Fellow will be expected to collaborate with library staff to determine the current state of the Library’s ability to acquire, organize, and distribute social sciences research data, to make recommendations for the software and hardware needed within the library, and, generally, to make recommendations to the library leadership team for the future directions the library should take to improve data management.

 

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience in the application of statistical and econometric techniques
  • Experience in working with large datasets
