Postdoctoral Research Associate in Scholarly Communication
The University of North Texas seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to help evaluate and implement best practices in scholarly communications practices on the UNT campus. UNT is a national leader in digital libraries, research data management, and Open Access.
The Fellow will be based in UNT’s new Digital Scholarship Co-Operative http://disco.unt.edu/, an initiative to foster the creative development and use of digital resources for research, teaching, and learning. The Co-Op is affiliated with the UNT Libraries, and serves researchers, faculty, and students from across the disciplines.
The fellow will be responsible for:
Primary Duties:
- Evaluating and contributing to current scholarly communications workflows on the UNT campus
- Participate in ongoing assessment program to evaluate the impact of UNT Digital Library and scholarly works repository services on faculty research
- Collaborate with the Scholarly Communications Librarian on implementing and socializing the UNT Library’s scholarly communications services
- Assisting faculty with questions about intellectual property and copyright issues
- Provide support for the UNT Scholarly Works Repository:
- Assisting faculty with negotiating Open Access agreements in publishing contracts
- Conducting intake for new materials for the Repository
- Developing and inputting metadata for new materials
- Participate in the UNT Data Lifecycle Consulting Team activities supporting faculty research
Additional Duties:
- Contribute to research on library publishing services
- Provide support for digital scholarship projects
- Provide editorial and project management support for e-journals
- Develop and implement workshops and other programming relevant to intellectual property, Open Access, and copyright for students, faculty, and staff
- Contribute to major event planning, including the annual Open Access Symposium
- Contribute to development initiatives including grants, foundation awards, and community relations
This postdoc will include a significant component of mentoring and professional development, and the fellow will be encouraged to present and publish from their own research while at UNT. The Fellow will report to the Director for Digital Scholarship. This is an 18-month appointment.

- Deep subject knowledge in any discipline
- Understanding of discipline-specific scholarly communication practices
- Understanding of Creative Commons licensing
- Understanding of intellectual property and copyright issues in the academy
- Interest in developing new models for academic publishing, including digital and library publishing services
- Interest in and support of the values of Open Access within the academy
- Interest in assessment of institutional processes and policies
- Ability to communicate effectively with lay persons, and scholars outside the Fellow’s home discipline
- Desire to learn and to contribute to knowledge production in an interdisciplinary environment
- Comfort working in a collaborative environment
- Tolerance for ambiguity and change
