Title: CLIR Instructional Technology Fellow
Library & Information Technology at Bucknell University is offering a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship focusing on instructional technology. The Fellow will work closely with Library & IT staff and lead our efforts to engage and support our faculty around forward-looking initiatives in the instructional technology realm.
Summary of Position
The Instructional Technology Fellow (ITF) works directly with faculty in the application of technology by identifying, exploring, promoting and supporting technology solutions and projects that benefit student learning and faculty instruction. The ITF is fully engaged with faculty and students providing relevant instruction, outreach and support for teaching, learning and scholarship through the creation and application of technology. The ITF will showcase interesting applications of instructional technology, engage meaningfully with faculty to understand their technology wants and needs and explore work elsewhere that may be good models for Bucknell.
The Instructional Technology Fellow will do the following :
- collaborate with faculty to explore technologies that may represent new opportunities for Bucknell faculty in the classroom, in support of student learning or scholarship
- provide specialized instruction, advice and guidance in the application of technology as appropriate
- help Bucknell’s instructional technology team through active assessment and program review determine where we are being particularly successful and where we should place additional emphasis, both by engaging with Bucknell’s faculty and administration but also by doing some degree of benchmarking with other institutions
- participate in outreach services, marketing and assessment programs to improve services
- actively identify possible points for integration and closer interaction with other areas of Library & IT
- keep abreast of changing technology generally and its application in the higher education environment specifically
- develop a knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in faculty outreach, instruction, information literacy/technology competency, multi-media production, web technologies, desktop tools and the wide variety of technology appliances. This knowledge and experience will be used to actively identify relevant initiatives for local exploration and possible implementation.
- develop and maintain an understanding of the aims and needs of the University’s teaching, learning and research programs through active consultation with faculty, administrators and information technology peers
- collaborate with faculty and Research Services librarians to inspire and support academic users of information resources and instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning
- lead and participate in key projects and strategic initiatives related to technology, outreach and student support as appropriate
- depending on departmental needs and the fellow's interests, the fellow may have the opportunity to teach in either a Foundation Seminar (http://www.bucknell.edu/x58935.xml) or a departmental course
- work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors
- report to the assistant director for instructional technology

- write clear, accurate communications and other documentation
- set priorities and manage work and deadlines independently (required)
- analyze data and make local decisions based on national and local trends and design processes that enhance services while maximizing university resources
- have demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- plan and execute effective workshops and other instruction/teaching responsibilities

Bucknell is a highly selective, predominately undergraduate residential university with strong liberal arts and professional programs. There are approximately 3,400 undergraduates and 150 master’s degree students. The campus is in a beautiful rural setting adjacent to the Susquehanna River. Harrisburg and State College (home of Penn State University) are about an hour away; New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are approximately a three to four hour drive. The university supports an active program of cultural events and opportunities for recreation.
Salary and Benefits
The Fellow will be a regular professional staff employee (12-month appointment) of Bucknell University with a salary of $40,000 plus the standard benefits and leave accrued by employees (http://www.bucknell.edu/x4948.xml).
