The Emory University Libraries offers a two-year CLIR fellowship for a scholar who desires to work in the Electronic Data Center (EDC) serving the research data needs of researchers in the sciences. The Fellow will join the EDC Team, which includes a Data Librarian and a GIS Librarian. The EDC Team works closely with subject librarians and other library divisions. This is a new position in the Woodruff Library, presenting the Fellow with the opportunity to acquire skills in creating and establishing new e-science services. The primary focus of the fellowship will be on assisting scientists in the EDC. The Fellow is based in the Services Division of the Main University Library and collaborates with subject librarians, digital program services, colleagues across the library system, academic technology services and with faculty.

Aspects of the fellowship include:

  • Manage and develop the science data collection including free and purchased data sets and data produced by the university researchers;
  • Expand and develop skills using scientific data tools, such as data visualization and GIS;
  • Support science researchers by providing office hours and/or individual consultations in the EDC;
  • Create training and promotional materials for science data tools and EDC services;
  • Collaborate with the Electronic Data Center and relevant units of the university in developing strategies and infrastructure for short- and long-term data management in the sciences;
  • Partner with staff developing the forthcoming Emory Repository to develop process to incorporate research data into repository.

Environment: The Libraries of Emory University include the Robert W. Woodruff Library and libraries for health sciences, law, theology, business, and Oxford College. Holdings total approximately 3.7 million volumes. The Libraries also provide access to thousands of electronic information resources, including more than 56,000 e-journal titles. The Woodruff Library brings together technology specialists and librarians in a facility that includes a learning commons, e-classrooms, a distance-learning classroom, Emory’s Center for Interactive Teaching, the Heilbrun Music and Media Library, the Electronic Data Center, group study rooms, and comfortable study space with data connections and wireless access throughout the building. The Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library (MARBL) contains modern literary archives and manuscript collections, notable African American collections, University archives, and other major manuscript and rare book holdings. The Emory Libraries are members of the Association of Research Libraries, OCLC, the Center for Research Libraries, the Coalition for Networked Information, the HathiTrust, and the Digital Library Federation.
