University of Nebraska-Lincoln
(position filled)
Postdoctoral Fellowship
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries offers a one-year CLIR Postdoctoral Fellowship, and a second year contingent upon availability of funding. The Fellow will be based in the University Libraries' Digital Initiatives & Special Collections Department, and will work with the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities' faculty and staff on digital research in 19th Century American history, literature or culture, including work on such projects as Civil War Washington, D.C., the Walt Whitman Archive, the Willa Cather Archive, or the Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition Online. Through research projects such as these, the individual will learn about standards, methodologies, changing research and information needs in a digital environment, issues of sustainability and preservation, copyright, and funding.
While the Libraries will consider applications from the broad range of humanities fields, we are particularly interested in scholars with a specialization in 19th Century American literature or history. A demonstrated interest in digital media is desirable. The individual will work under the guidance of the Co-Directors of the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, one of whom is the Chair of Digital Initiatives & Special Collections, and in collaboration with other scholars associated with particular research projects.
The Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in national meetings with other CLIR fellows and to attend one relevant conference. In addition, the Fellow will learn about the different departments and operations of a research library, and will have access to a variety of mentors. At the end of the first year, the Fellow will have developed an understanding of many of the issues facing today's research libraries and have learned about digital humanities centers and digital scholarship.
