Scholarships for University of North Carolina’s Digital Curation Institute

The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), in partnership with the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships for participation in the University of North Carolina’s upcoming DigCCurr Professional Institute. This opportunity has been made possible through the generous financial support of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is part of the “Leadership through New Communities of Knowledge” project. Potential participants must apply directly through CLIR. Registration for scholarship recipients will be handled by CLIR.

These scholarships will offer library staff based in small to mid-sized private colleges and universities an immersive learning experience with fellow digital curation practitioners and international experts. Participants will consider a variety of approaches to the management of digital assets; the Institute will be most appropriate for participants already involved in digital curation efforts at their institutions. The Institute takes place in two parts: a residential six-day session in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, May 20-25, 2012; and a two-day follow-up session in January 2013, also in Chapel Hill. Potential participants must be able to take part in both sessions to be eligible for DigCCurr scholarships.

In addition to underwriting the tuition costs for the Institute for successful applicants, CLIR will provide up to $1,300 in total travel support. This amount includes a $300 stipend that will be applied toward dormitory housing for the May 2012 portion of the Institute. Scholarship winners may also request reimbursement for up to $1,000 in travel costs associated with participation in the May 2012 part of the Institute, in accordance with CLIR’s travel policy. Please note that grant funds cannot be used to support travel to the January 2013 session.

Successful applicants will come from institutions that already manage digital collections in some format. Applicants from all small to mid-sized private colleges and universities are eligible, with preference given to those employed by CIC member institutions. Preference may also be given to applicants committed to sharing the expertise they will gain through the Institute with colleagues at other institutions in their regions. Potential participants from HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, and institutions with a high proportion of first-generation students are encouraged to apply. Participants must supply contact information for their library director or another appropriate campus official in order to verify institutional support.
